United States

Beets: In Wisconsin, crop sizing continues, with harvest anticipated to begin shortly.

Berries: Berry crops across the Pacific Northwest are progressing well, with blueberry harvest already underway in Oregon and Washington—the region’s largest producers. Some mid-season blueberry varieties are ripening ahead of schedule, pointing to a slightly earlier harvest window. Raspberry production is solid, although heavier laterals in certain varieties raise concerns about potential breakage.

In the Willamette Valley, red raspberries are showing good volume and quality. Blackberry harvest has begun, with strong fruit quality across major varieties, and boysenberries and marionberries are expected to follow shortly. Strawberry yields are strong, with multiple varieties in harvest and day-neutral types rebounding with improved fruit set. While pest pressure remains manageable, growers are monitoring for threats such as spotted wing drosophila and strawberry crown moth. Cranberries, still months away from harvest, are developing well with promising early blooms.

Cherries: Growers across the Pacific Northwest are reporting a strong cherry crop this year, thanks to favorable bloom conditions and optimal temperatures. Harvest is on track, with processors actively preparing for volumes and pricing. The season kicked off in early July, aligning with peak demand and suggesting robust availability for both fresh and processing markets.

Corn: Sweet Corn season has begun and to date fields and product look very good. The southern Wisconsin and Illinois regions began harvest in mid-July and are now approximately 6% complete. Central Wisconsin and Minnesota areas are projected to begin harvest next week. Crop health is variable across regions, but generally looks good.

Green Beans: In Michigan, Organic planting has started, with harvest expected later in August. Conventional planting started early July.

In Wisconsin, improved planting conditions helped make progress. Harvest has begun, though initial yields are modest due to challenging early weather conditions.

Lima Beans: In the Midwest, Crop conditions are favorable, though some fields are showing signs of pest and disease pressure. Harvest is projected to start in early August.

Peas: In Washington, harvest is complete. Organic fields have exceeded yield expectations, while conventional crops are tracking close to plan. Quality and grade are above target after early challenges.

In Minnesota, harvest is wrapping up in key growing areas with field yields tapering off. Overall production is trending slightly under expectations.

In Wisconsin, harvest is nearing completion and is also trending under expected yield levels.

Pears: The Bartlett pear crop appears above average in the Pacific Northwest based on initial assessments, while Bosc and Anjou varieties are trending heavier, potentially leading to opportunities in the juice market. Harvest and processing are expected to start mid- to late August, with growers monitoring fruit size and quality closely.

Peppers: In Washington, a new crop planted in Ellensburg is progressing well. Harvest prep and equipment optimization are underway to ensure success.

Plums: Plum crops are progressing well in the Pacific Northwest with healthy bloom and fruit set. Weather permitting, harvest is expected to begin in early September. Early signs point to an average to strong crop, and inventory is currently available for multiple pack sizes to meet demand.

Potatoes: Potato harvest across major U.S. growing regions is well underway. The Pacific Northwest is reporting strong yields and good sizing despite some early delays due to cooler spring temperatures. Colorado’s San Luis Valley has had a healthy growing season, with good crop development and favorable quality reports. In the Midwest, including Michigan and Wisconsin, recent rains have benefited crop growth, although excessive moisture in certain areas has caused some concern. Overall, the outlook for frozen processing and fresh market potatoes remains positive across the U.S., with steady demand.

Snap Beans: In the Midwest, Rainfall earlier in the season delayed planting, but conditions have started to improve. Harvest is still in its early stages with progress slower than usual.

Mexico

Avocados: Mexico has officially begun exporting avocados to Brazil, marking a key market expansion amid ongoing trade tensions with the U.S., including recent tariffs. The move is part of a broader effort to diversify export destinations and reduce reliance on the U.S. market. With strong avocado production and growing international demand, Mexico is positioning itself to remain a global leader in avocado exports despite shifting trade dynamics.

Cauliflower: Heavy rainfall during Mexico’s rainy season has impacted cauliflower quality, making current florets unsuitable for export to Japan. Orders for cauliflower florets are paused until October. However, cauliflower rice continues to be available for shipment.

Potatoes: Mexico is currently facing a potato surplus, leading to a significant drop in prices. Favorable weather conditions and high yields have contributed to abundant supply, outpacing domestic demand. As a result, producers are grappling with reduced profitability and exploring options for export and processing to help stabilize the market.

Peru

Blueberries: Peru is advancing its blueberry sector by adopting new genetics aimed at improving fruit quality, yield, and adaptability to climate conditions. These next-generation varieties are helping growers enhance competitiveness in export markets by extending the harvest window and ensuring more consistent supply. The shift reflects Peru’s strategic investment in innovation to strengthen its position as a leading global blueberry exporter.

Onions: Peruvian onion exports have increased, reflecting strong production and global demand. However, despite higher export volumes, prices remain low due to market saturation and competition from other exporting countries. Growers are navigating tight margins while focusing on maintaining quality and exploring new markets to support continued growth.

Costa Rica

Pineapples: Frozen pineapple prices have stabilized thanks to improved local fruit availability. This benefits buyers sourcing for frozen desserts, smoothies, and ready-to-eat applications requiring consistent fruit quality.

India

Potatoes: Harvest in key regions has concluded with solid results, and export opportunities are growing, especially for frozen potato products.

Europe

Bananas: Banana production across key EU regions, including Spain, France, and Portugal, has declined due to widespread setbacks. This contraction is prompting increased interest in reliable frozen fruit alternatives to meet supply needs.

Blackcurrants: The blackcurrant harvest in Poland began in early July, with pricing levels mirroring last year’s. While prices softened slightly as more fruit entered the market, volume and availability for IQF applications remain solid.

Corn: Hungary’s sweetcorn harvest is underway, with the main crop running through mid-September and a second crop extending into October. While some non-irrigated plots show small, underdeveloped kernels, full crop clarity is expected by the end of August. Canned sweetcorn exports have declined slightly across major European markets, but frozen sweetcorn exports have rebounded sharply due to lower prices, particularly to the UK, Belgium, Germany, and Italy. Rising raw material costs are pressuring manufacturers’ margins despite this rebound.

Potatoes: European growers are facing a mixed season. In Northern and Western Europe, dry weather earlier in the year raised concerns, but recent rainfall has improved soil conditions and crop prospects. However, some regions are still dealing with water stress. Production is expected to support both fresh and processing needs, but exporters continue to face logistical and regulatory challenges, particularly with seed potato access in markets like Türkiye.

In Belgium, a larger-than-expected planted area combined with high yields has resulted in a bumper crop. Most farmers have already met their contractual obligations and are now selling surplus volumes into the open market. This has caused pressure on prices, with more product entering cold storage.

In Germany, the harvest is progressing quickly thanks to dry conditions. However, quality concerns are emerging due to the fast pace and hot weather. Some tubers show signs of dehydration or irregular shapes. Processing potatoes are moving steadily into storage.

In France, yields are above expectations in many areas. With good growing conditions and strong yields, surplus volumes are also entering the open market. Price pressure is being observed, especially for early harvested lots.

In Netherlands, a solid harvest and ample supply are reported. However, some growers are slowing harvests to avoid flooding the market. Contractual demand has largely been met, and processors are cautious in taking on additional volumes due to existing inventory.

Canada

Berries: In British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, Duke blueberry harvest is progressing quickly with strong demand and fruit quality. Raspberry harvest is active with mostly favorable conditions, though isolated concerns about lateral breakage and blossom weevil control have been reported. Pest levels remain low but are being watched as harvest continues.

Potatoes: In Canada, potato fields in Prince Edward Island and Manitoba are experiencing strong crop development following generally favorable weather. While some regions reported late planting, current conditions support healthy growth and promising yields. There is optimism for good quality potatoes for both processing and table markets, though vigilance remains for managing disease pressure and pests.

China

Corn: China’s sweetcorn harvest is beginning, with processors forecasting stable or slightly higher prices—especially for super-sweet varieties. Chinese canned and frozen sweetcorn exports continue to rise, with strong growth in Latin America and Asia. However, exports to parts of the EU have declined. The EU has launched an antidumping investigation on Chinese canned sweetcorn due to a sharp increase in exports in recent years.

Potatoes: China’s potato sector is expanding, with increased acreage and government-backed investment into cold storage and processing infrastructure. Weather has generally supported good growth in northern production zones.

Vietnam

Dragon fruit: Vietnam’s dragon fruit exports are currently facing delays due to postponed certifications and compliance checks. These regulatory bottlenecks have disrupted shipments, impacting exporters’ ability to meet international demand. The situation highlights ongoing logistical and bureaucratic challenges in maintaining smooth trade flows for Vietnam’s key fruit export.

Summary

As of August 2025, global crop activity is marked by strong harvest momentum, shifting trade patterns, and continued climate-related challenges. In the U.S., berry production across the Pacific Northwest is performing well—blueberries and raspberries are being harvested with promising quality, strawberries are yielding strongly, and blackberry season is off to a good start. Cherry growers are experiencing one of the best crops in recent years, thanks to ideal bloom conditions and steady temperatures that supported even maturation and excellent fruit quality—boosting availability for both fresh and processing markets. Corn, peas, green beans, and potatoes are all progressing steadily across key growing states, while pears, plums, and peppers are on track with healthy development.

Meanwhile, Mexico is contending with a potato surplus and low cauliflower quality due to heavy rains, though avocado exports to Brazil mark a significant new market opening. In Peru, advances in blueberry genetics aim to increase export competitiveness, while onion exports are rising despite price pressure. Costa Rica’s pineapple market is stabilizing, and India’s potato exports are growing. Europe is navigating a mixed season: Poland’s blackcurrants and Hungary’s sweetcorn are performing well, while Belgium, France, and the Netherlands report high potato yields but face market saturation and pricing pressure.

Canada’s potato and berry crops are developing well under mostly favorable conditions. China is expanding sweetcorn and potato infrastructure, though EU trade tensions loom, and Vietnam’s dragon fruit shipments are disrupted by certification delays. Overall, the season highlights the importance of agility in sourcing and strong supplier partnerships to navigate a complex, evolving global market.
