Guatemala’s Fuego volcano erupts – killing at least 62 people

Guatemala’s Fuego volcano erupted on Sunday, June 3rd, killing at least 62 people and spewing a river of lava and plumes of smoke almost 6 miles into the air.

Broccoli season is underway; fortunately, there was no damage done to the plantations. The winds were blowing east/northeast of the volcano, while the main growing area for our broccoli is located northwest, in the Patzun area.

Some of the plantation located closer to the volcano area just got a bit of ash causing no harm to the broccoli plants.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Guatemala.

Satellite footage of Fuego shows the massive dark gray eruption was visible even from space, note how most of the ash goes east/northeast.
